Open publishing commitments

Before you trust a platform with your journal, you should know exactly what happens to your content, your DOIs, and your readers — including on the day you leave. These commitments apply to every journal on Scholardemia.

No article processing charges

Scholardemia journals do not charge article processing charges (APCs).

This platform authority is APC-specific and cannot be switched on by a journal. It does not assert separate submission, page, reader, or other charge policies.

Lab and institution subscriptions price workspace and hosting infrastructure; they are separate from journal APC state.

Your journal is yours — the exit guarantee

If you leave, you take everything: full-text content, PDFs, metadata (as machine-readable exports), your subscriber list, your domain, and your editorial records. We provide the export within 30 days of a request, in open formats, at no charge.

DOIs: articles deposited under the platform Crossref prefix are transferred to your new publisher via Crossref's standard title-transfer process — we initiate and complete the transfer at no charge, and DOIs keep resolving throughout. Journals that bring their own Crossref prefix keep it untouched.

Because your journal runs on your own domain, every article URL moves with you. Nothing about leaving breaks a citation.

Open-infrastructure principles

We align with the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI): community accountability, no lock-in by design, and open data about the platform itself. Concretely today: open metadata via OAI-PMH on every journal, exports in open formats, and the exit guarantee above.

We publish what we have and haven't yet done — alignment is a practice, not a badge.

Preservation — where we are honestly

Every journal gets standards-based open metadata (OAI-PMH), which supports harvesting and archival workflows today. Formal preservation agreements (CLOCKSS / Portico / PKP Preservation Network) are in progress; we will list each agreement here the day it is signed, and until then we do not claim it.

Interim commitment: on request we deposit your published PDFs and metadata into your institution's repository, and the exit guarantee ensures your archive is never hostage to us.
