Aviation enables international tourism, family connection and economic exchange, yet it remains difficult to reconcile with rapid emissions reduction. Efficiency gains alone are unlikely to resolve the growth of demand and the persistence of fossil fuel use. This webinar examines the science, policy and operational choices involved in decarbonising flight, while recognising the distinct responsibilities of travellers, businesses and governments.
The session will explain how aviation affects climate through carbon dioxide and other high-altitude effects. It will assess the potential and limitations of newer aircraft, operational efficiency, sustainable aviation fuels, electric systems and hydrogen. Participants will consider technological readiness, energy requirements, lifecycle emissions and the time needed to replace fleets and infrastructure.
