Houston, Texas, Department : Health & Human Performance Salary : Commensurate with experience Description : The Sport Management program at the University of Houston’s Health and Human Performance Department invites applications for a non-tenure-track (NTT), full-time, promotion eligible, Clinical Faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor with a start time of August 2027. While this position will focus the majority of their professional time teaching, other duties expected include service, administration, and scholarship. The successful candidate will be required to fulfill a 4/4 teaching load during the fall and spring semesters, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Summer teaching may be an additional opportunity. Examples of courses candidates may be asked to teach include: Sport Facility and Event Management, Sport Governance, Sport Communication, Sociology of Sport, and Sport Marketing. Applicants must show evidence of prior excellence in teaching at the collegiate level at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Program Mission and Values The Sport Management program is housed within the Health and Human Performance Department. The mission of this program is to develop global leaders to meet the needs of a multifaceted population through cutting-edge scholarship, theoretical pedagogy, and co-curricular engagement in the incubation city of Houston. The values we uphold to pursue this mission are integrity, professionalism, and innovation. The University of Houston’s main campus is close to downtown Houston, with direct access to many of the sporting events, venues, and contacts that make Houston a major sprots city. Thus, we are looking for candidates with sport industry experience as well as academic qualifications to connect and impact the sport environment around Houston. Candidates will be expected to engage with sport practitioners in the greater Houston area that can enhance the program’s community engagement strategy and provide new initiatives that assist student professional placement. Lastly, successful candidates will be required to participate in program, departmental, and/or university-wide service and the ability to synergize scholarship aims with the mission of the HHP department. Qualifications • Earned doctoral degree in Sport Management (preferred) or related field from an accredited university by start date • A strong record of quality teaching at the collegiate level (3+ years preferred) • Previous sport industry experience (5+ years preferred) • Ability to teach both face-to-face and online modalities Salary and rank commensurate with experience. About Sport Management Program The Sport Management program has been a part of the University of Houston for over 30 years, with over 280 undergraduate and 30 graduate students currently pursuing degrees that will place them at the forefront of unmatched professional opportunities in the sport industry. Our program successfully places nearly 100 students annually in internships with major sport organizations and events such as: Super Bowl, Final Four, World Cup, Copa America, Houston Rockets, Houston Texans, Houston Astros, Houston Dynamo, Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, Houston Marathon, UH Athletics, and many youth and scholastic sport organizations. Also, our program operates one of the only Adaptive Athletics programs in the nation and was recently awarded the top student organization on UH’s campus. The Sport Management program offers B.S. and M.A. degrees with the ultimate focus on preparing leaders that can impact the Houston sporting community immediately upon graduation. The candidate should express how they may contribute to community and sport entity engagement that supports student professional development and career pursuit in their cover letter. Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments. Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidates.
