Waco, Texas, Department Chair and Associate Professor or Professor, Tenured, Health, Human Performance and Recreation Health, Human Performance and Recreation Location: Waco, TX Open Date: Aug 24, 2026 Deadline: Dec 01, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description: Baylor University seeks an experienced, collaborative, and innovative Associate Professor or Professor with tenure to serve as the Department Chair for the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2027. This is a full-time position. Details for this position can be found at apply.interfolio.com/191790 . The Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation (HHPR) seeks a Department Chair to lead our growing department in meeting its mission of advancing the health sciences, kinesiology and recreation, and training the next generation of researchers and leaders in the varied disciplines within HHPR. The Chair will lead a department comprising faculty with a range of appointments and responsibilities, including tenured and tenure-track researchers, clinical faculty, and lecturers. The successful candidate will be committed to advancing research development, supporting excellence in teaching and professional practice, collaborating effectively with department and college-level leadership teams, and embodying a leadership approach that aligns with the University's strategic goals and Christian mission. Qualifications: Required: A doctorate (e.g., Ph.D., Sc.D.) in health science, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field. Credentials commensurate with an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. An active research agenda is expected with current or previous extramural funding. Preferred: Previous academic leadership and administrative experience. Experience mentoring and supporting the professional development of faculty. A record of creative, collaborative, and practical solution-oriented leadership. Evidence of the ability to lead, support, and advocate for a multidisciplinary academic department.
