Position Description
The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized, applicants for a pool temporary of part-time teaching appointments.

Department of Kinesiology
The Department of Kinesiology is part of the College of Health and Human Services and Nursing. The Department offers a variety of undergraduate degree options leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. The different educational options offered to students include: pre-physical therapy, fitness director, and teaching. The baccalaureate degree in physical education teaching is approved by the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing (CCTC) and provides graduates with a subject matter verification for K-12 physical education teaching. The fitness director option offers students opportunities to go into personal fitness training or to pursue an advanced degree in exercise science or related field. The pre-physical therapy option prepares student for graduate study in a variety of allied health fields (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, physician assistant)

The Position
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled based on student enrollment and authorized funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.
Responsibilities
Temporary faculty are responsible for all aspects of designing, developing and teaching courses within the department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (1) developing course requirements including student learning outcomes, syllabi, assignments, evaluation methods, etc., (2) Planning for and implementing regular scheduled instruction, (3) evaluating student progress toward student learning outcomes and (4) assigning student grades. Further, temporary faculty are responsible for holding regular office hours in order to assist students in successfully completed classes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).
Employment Requirement
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
In accordance with the California State University (CSU) Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is a state entity whose business operations reside within the State of California and prohibits hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of California.
Salary and Benefit Information
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507 - $ 6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
