Course announcements & updates

2 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Learning & courses

Announcements are the instructor’s channel to everyone enrolled in a course. Use them when you add new material, correct something, change a date, or want to encourage students who have gone quiet. Like discussions, announcements are rolling out gradually, so they may not be available on every course yet.

Post an announcement (instructors)

  1. Open the course from Learning → Teach.
  2. Go to the announcements panel for the course.
  3. Write a clear title and the body of the update, then post it. The title is what students see first in the course, so make it specific.

What students see

  • Announcements appear inside the course, and each one tracks whether you have read it, so unread updates stand out when you return.
  • Because updates live in the course rather than in email, checking in on the course page is the reliable way to catch up on news between study sessions.

When to announce, and when not to

Announcements are one-to-many and worth keeping scarce: a few well-timed updates get read, a stream of small ones gets skimmed. For questions and back-and-forth with students, use the course discussions instead; see Student questions & discussions.

Still stuck? Talk to a person.

Our support team reads every message. Include what you were doing, any error message, and a screenshot if you have one; it usually saves a round-trip.
