Disappearing messages & export

2 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Messaging, inbox & notifications

Two tools for the lifecycle of a conversation: disappearing messages remove chat history automatically after a set time, and export takes a copy of a conversation out of Scholardemia for your records.

Disappearing messages

Each conversation has its own disappearing-messages setting: Off, 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Once a duration is set, new messages are removed for everyone that long after they are sent. The timer does not apply to existing history; earlier messages stay unless you remove them manually.

  • In a direct conversation, either participant can change the setting.
  • In a group, only the owner or an admin can change it.
  • Everyone in the conversation can see which duration is active.
Disappearing is housekeeping, not secrecy. Participants can still copy, export, or screenshot messages before they expire.

Export a conversation

  1. Open the conversation and choose Export

Any participant can export a conversation they are part of.

  2. Pick a format and range

Choose PDF (best for sharing and printing) or plain text, set a date range if you do not need the full history, and decide whether to include a listing of attachments and media.

  3. Download the file

The export downloads directly. Very long conversations can time out; if that happens, narrow the date range and export in parts.

Still stuck? Talk to a person.

Our support team reads every message. Include what you were doing, any error message, and a screenshot if you have one; it usually saves a round-trip.
