Create & organise documents

3 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Documents & the editor

Everything you write on Scholardemia lives in your documents. This guide covers creating documents, keeping them organised with folders, tags, and stars, and finding them again later.

Create a document

  1. Open your documents

Go to Documents from the left rail.

  2. Select New Document

The New Document button opens a list of templates. Pick Blank document to start from scratch, or choose a ready-made structure; see Document templates.

  3. Start writing

The document opens in the editor straight away. It is private until you share it.

Folders, tags & stars

  • Folders: select New Folder to create one, then drag documents onto a folder to move them. The folder tree lives in the sidebar, and the Folders view shows your documents by folder.
  • Tags: choose Tagfrom a document’s actions menu to label it with up to five tags. Tags appear on document cards and work as filters.
  • Stars: star a document to pin it to the sidebar’s favourites section and the Starred collection.

The sidebar also offers smart collections such as Recent, Shared with Me, Drafts, and In Review, which gather documents automatically.

Search, filter & sort

  • Filter: the filter box matches document titles. To search inside document content, open global search (Cmd/Ctrl+K) — from the Documents page it is already scoped to your documents, and results jump straight to the matching passage.
  • Filters: narrow the list by owner (yours or shared with you), date modified, sharing state, and tags. Active filters show as chips you can clear.
  • Sort: order by Last Modified, Date Created, Title, or Word Count.
  • Views: switch between Grid, List, and Folders layouts.

Rename, duplicate & delete

Each document’s actions menu includes Rename, Share, Tag, Duplicate (optionally copying tags and sharing), and Delete. You can also select several documents at once to delete, tag, or move them together.

Deletion is permanent. There is no recycle bin for documents, so confirm carefully. If you only want a copy out of the way, duplicate it first or move it to a folder instead.
