Document templates

2 min readUpdated 9 August 2026Documents & the editor

Templates give a new document a ready-made structure, so you can start with the right sections and formatting instead of a blank page. Every template produces an ordinary document; you can change anything after it is created.

Start from a template

In Documents, select New Document. The button opens a list of templates; pick one and the new document opens in the editor with that structure already in place.

Available templates

  • Blank document: an empty page, no preset structure.
  • Journal article: a manuscript layout for journal submission.
  • News article: structured writing blocks for announcements and news posts.
  • Conference: abstract and full-paper templates for your conferences.
  • Academic CV: a curriculum vitae layout.
  • Letter: formal correspondence, such as a cover letter.

Journal manuscript templates

Choosing Journal article opens a Choose journal template step, where you pick the manuscript format of an active Scholardemia journal. The resulting document follows that journal’s expected layout, which makes the eventual submission smoother; see Submit an article to a journal.

Conference templates

Choosing Conference opens a Choose conference template step. Select an abstract or full-paper template from a conference you organise or attend, then create the document with that conference’s required structure.
