Global search & the command palette

2 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Getting started

One search box covers the whole platform: documents, people, events, publications, projects, messages, and more. You can open it from anywhere in the app.

Open search from anywhere

  • Press Ctrl + K (Windows/Linux) or ⌘ K (Mac) — it works even while you are typing in a text field.
  • Select the magnifier in the dock.

Narrow the results

Results are grouped by type, and a row of tabs lets you focus on a single kind of result: documents, people, events, publications, projects, your inbox, bookmarks, and more. Most scopes offer additional filters once selected, so you can, for example, limit events to a date range.

Search also has an external mode that looks beyond your workspace to published papers, researchers, and institutions in the wider scholarly record, which is useful when the thing you are looking for is not on Scholardemia yet.

Tips

Search is the fastest way to reach a colleague’s profile: press Ctrl + K, type a few letters of their name, and open the person result. For the full keyboard reference, see Keyboard shortcuts.
