The onboarding tour: profile, interests, discover

2 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Getting started

The first time you sign in after verifying your email, Scholardemia walks you through a short guided setup. It has three steps after the welcome screen, every one of them is optional, and anything you skip can be finished later from your settings.

What the tour covers

  1. Profile

Add a profile photo and a cover image so colleagues recognise you. Both can be skipped and uploaded later.

  2. Interests

Pick the research topics you care about. Your choices shape what appears in your home feed and the people and content Scholardemia suggests.

  3. Discover colleagues

Follow researchers whose work overlaps with yours. Following someone adds their public activity to your feed; it does not share anything of yours with them.

Revisit anything you skipped

The tour only runs once, but nothing in it is locked away. Your photo, cover image, and profile details live in Settings → Profile, and you can follow people at any time from their profiles or from search. Once the tour is complete you land on your home feed.

A complete profile makes a real difference: colleagues searching for collaborators see your photo, affiliation, and interests first. See Complete your researcher profile.

Still stuck? Talk to a person.

Our support team reads every message. Include what you were doing, any error message, and a screenshot if you have one; it usually saves a round-trip.
