Journals on Scholardemia run their whole editorial pipeline in one place: screening, review, decisions, and production. This guide is for editors and editorial staff; what authors see along the way is described in Track your submission status.
The editorial workspace
Editors work from the journal’s editorial workspace, which lists every submission by stage and keeps assignments, reviews, decisions, and correspondence together with live counts for each stage. Access is role-based and set per journal, so board members, section editors, and staff each see what their role allows.
From submission to decision
- Screening. New submissions arrive as Submitted. Editors check scope and completeness, then move the manuscript into review, return it to the author before review, or desk-decline it.
- Review. Editors invite reviewers, who respond to structured review forms. Reminders help keep reports on schedule, and once the reports are in, an editor moves the submission to Reviews received.
- Decision. With the reports in hand, an editor records accept, minor revision, major revision, or decline, and composes the decision letter that is sent to the author and kept on the submission record.
- Revisions. Revised manuscripts return as new versions on the same record, ready for another editorial check or review round.
After acceptance: production and publishing
Accepted manuscripts move through production stages: copyediting, the author’s copyedit review, proofing, and proof approval. When the article is ready, assign it to an issue and publish on the journal’s own schedule; see Manage issues & publication schedule.
