The unified inbox: chat + mail

3 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Messaging, inbox & notifications

Your inbox brings chat and email together: a list of threads on the left, the open conversation or email on the right. On a phone the columns stack, with a back button to return to the list.

Mailboxes & filters

The mailbox tabs slice the same inbox in different ways. All Messages mixes everything by recency; Email, Chat, Group Chats, and Channels narrow to one kind of thread. The usual mail folders are there too: Drafts, Sent, Starred, Spam, Snoozed, Archive, and Trash, plus a Calendar tab for event-related mail.

Working with email

  • Read and reply: open a thread in the detail column and reply inline with the full composer, including attachments and formatting.
  • Compose: start a fresh email from the inbox. Your sending address is managed under Settings → Mail; replies automatically use the address the email was sent to.
  • Triage: star what matters, snooze what can wait, archive what is done, and mark spam so future senders are filtered.

Chat in the same place

Chat conversations open in the same detail panel, with the full composer: files, photos, and rich item cards. New direct and group conversations are started from here, and the floating Messages launcher elsewhere in the app shows the same conversations, so nothing is ever in two states.

Working in a lab or workspace? Workspaces have their own shared inbox for team email, separate from your personal one. See The workspace shared inbox.

Still stuck? Talk to a person.

Our support team reads every message. Include what you were doing, any error message, and a screenshot if you have one; it usually saves a round-trip.
