Scholardemia is designed to be usable without a mouse. The interface is built on accessible component primitives, so dialogs, menus, and forms follow the keyboard conventions you already know from other modern web apps.
Getting around with the keyboard
- Tab and Shift+Tab move between interactive elements; Enter or Space activates them.
- Arrow keys move within menus, tabs, and lists; Escape closes dialogs and popovers and returns focus to where you were.
- App-level shortcuts, including the command palette for jumping anywhere, are covered in the keyboard shortcuts guide. A preference to switch shortcuts off entirely, for when they clash with assistive software, is rolling out in accessibility preferences.
If you lose track of the focus position, turn on Highlight focus in Settings → Appearance to make the focus indicator more prominent.
Screen readers
Interface controls carry accessible names and roles, dialogs trap and restore focus properly, and decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology. Turning on Show image descriptions in accessibility preferences surfaces available descriptions for images in content.
If a screen reader announces something unclearly, or a control cannot be reached by keyboard, that is a bug we want to fix. Describe what you were doing, your browser, and your assistive technology in an email to support@scholardemia.com.
