Backup & recovery codes

2 min readUpdated 10 July 2026Account & sign-in

When you enable two-factor authentication, Scholardemia issues a set of single-use backup codes. They are your way back into your account if your phone is lost, wiped, or simply not with you.

Store them safely

The codes are shown once, during two-factor setup, with buttons to copy or download the full set. Save them somewhere that is not your phone:

  • a password manager entry (the best option),
  • an encrypted note or file kept away from your everyday devices, or
  • a printed copy in a genuinely secure place.

Treat each code like a password: anyone holding one can pass your second sign-in step.

Use a backup code at sign-in

When you are prompted for your two-factor code, switch to the Backup code option in the verification dialog and enter one of your saved codes instead of the six-digit authenticator code. Each code works exactly once; cross it off after use. You can also tick the option to trust the device for 30 days so you are not prompted again immediately.

Running low, or codes exposed?

If you have used most of your codes, or suspect the list has been seen by someone else, issue a fresh set: turn two-factor authentication off and back on again from Settings → Account. The old codes stop working and a new set is generated during setup.

Lost your authenticator and your backup codes? Email support@scholardemia.com from the email address on your account and we will help you verify your identity another way.
