Fixing sign-in problems

2 min readUpdated 9 July 2026Account & sign-in

Most sign-in failures come down to a handful of causes. Work through this checklist in order; each step rules out the most common problem at that stage.

The checklist

  1. Use the canonical sign-in page at /sign-in (the legacy /login route redirects there).
  2. Re-enter your email and password carefully, and check that Caps Lock is off.
  3. If prompted for a two-factor code, use the latestcode from your authenticator app and make sure your device’s time is set automatically. A drifted clock is the most common 2FA failure.
  4. If you have been rate-limited after repeated attempts, wait 15 minutes before trying again.
  5. Enable cookies and retry in a private browser window to rule out an extension or a stale cache.
  6. If sign-in still fails, start a password reset from /forgot-password and try again with the new password.

Locked out by two-factor authentication

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, sign in with one of your recovery codes. Each code works once. After you are back in, re-pair your new device from Settings → Account.
