Tags are the connective tissue of Scholardemia. The same topic vocabulary runs across posts, documents, datasets, events, news articles, and job listings, which is what lets one followed topic gather related material from every corner of the platform.
Tagging your own content
In posts, write #hashtags directly in the text (up to five per post). Elsewhere, documents, datasets, and events have a tag field where you type to find existing tags or create new ones. Reusing an existing tag is almost always better than coining a near-duplicate, because followers of the established topic will actually see your work. Where automatic suggestions are available, a suggest option can propose tags from your title and text; suggestions are only proposals and nothing is applied until you accept it.
Following a topic
Select a topic chip on a post or document and you can follow the tag from the popover that opens. Followed topics build the Topics stream on your home feed, collecting tagged posts, documents, events, courses, datasets, and journal news. A weekly topics digest email is available as an opt-in from your notification settings.
Tags as a discovery tool
Because tags span content types, they are a good way in when you are exploring a new area: a single topic can surface a dataset, a course, and the people posting about it. Combine topic follows with the search scopes described in Search everything to go deeper.
